J. Francisco Ayala, Principal
PA ANNOUNCEMENT 050712
Today, I want to start my announcement congratulating Mr. Rodriguez, Ms. Curtis, and all students and families who participated in the Music in the Parks event last Friday at Valencia High School. Many of us had the joy and privilege to hear Frost music groups perform. It was an absolute treat for the entire audience to hear our students play so magnificently and to perfection. Today, Frost Middle School welcomes to our trophy collection 8 awards received for the following musical groups: Advanced Band, Advanced Strings, Intermediate Band, Jazz Band, Mariachi, Beginning Percussion Ensemble, and Advanced Percussion Ensemble. Additionally, one of our performers, Johnny Hidalgo, takes one home for Outstanding Jazz Solo. Once again, congratulations Mr. Rodriguez, Ms. Curtis, families, and performing students, you make us proud.

On a different note, I want to talk again about the California Standards Tests that our students will be taking in about a week. We anticipate that all our hard work in learning and preparing will pay off with high scores for our students and our school. Last week, we delivered hundreds of certificates to students who last year performed at Advanced or Proficient levels in English and Mathematics. I promise you that next year, we will be delivering certificates again to all students who perform Advanced and Proficient this year. Additionally, students who move up one level will receive a certificate as well. This week, we are having assemblies on Friday, to go over specific information about the tests and each students' performance.

I know our students are already motivated to do well on the test. However, I want to boost that motivation with the following incentives: I have secured 6 laptops to give away for students who do well on the tests. Additionally, we have 4 iPod Nano's and 4 iPod Suffle to be raffled. Here is how you can win: There will be 2 laptops to be awarded per grade level; One laptop will be given to the student with the overall most improved test scores, the other laptop will be given to the student with the overall highest test score in that grade level. Additionally, every student who scores Advanced or Proficient, or who moves up at least one performance level, will have his/her name entered in a raffle to win one of the iPods. We will announce the names of the winning students when the test scores are released from the state.

Get ready for the test, it will be exciting for all of us to award these prices to our very deserving students for their excellent academic performances.

Have a great week!
